Added entire page

New page

You’ve put in the time and worked your way to the top of your department. Welcome to a whole new level of responsibility! You are now a vital part of keeping the station running smoothly. This guide will cover the basics that apply to all command members.

Command Expectations
Command members are held to a higher standard both IC and OOC, as per the server rules. Make sure to act professionally and be available when you’re needed. A key part of this is following your department’s SOP and Corporate Law to the best of your ability.

Do your best to be aware of important events in your department, and look into complaints about your staff. If someone is causing too many problems or is never where they’re needed, it may be time for a demotion

Communication
Communication is a key part of being a command member. All comms you have access to are important, but pay attention to your department’s and command comms most of all. You can ensure you do not miss anything relevant to you by setting the text highlighting feature to highlight your title (CMO, HOP, Cap, etc.), so you can clearly see when someone is referring to you.

Paperwork
Paperwork is important when it comes to activities outside your department’s norm. Properly filled out paperwork with the signatures/stamps of anyone relevant can cover you legally if anyone questions a decision.

Make sure to read papers people ask you to stamp, as anything you stamp is officially recognized by you and can allow someone a great degree of freedom depending on what the paperwork allows.

One thing to note: if the Captain approves paperwork relevant to your department without getting your stamp first, you are free to express your disapproval. You will likely be supported by other department heads, as no one likes someone being allowed to do something out of the norm in their department without them approving it or even being aware.

Tools of the Trade
{| class = "wikitable"
!Item
!Description
|-
|
Flash

|All command members start with a flash with 5 charges. This is a powerful self-defense tool in an emergency situation. If you activate the flash without a target, then it will blind everyone in the area without flash protection including yourself. However if you melee someone with it, then only that person will be flashed, and they will drop anything they’re holding. This is a great way to either give yourself a chance to run away or take the weapon of an attacker.
|-
|
Door remote

|Every command member has a door remote in their locker that works on their department’s doors. Pressing your “use” key (default “Z”) with the remote in hand will change what mode it’s on. The three modes allow you to: toggle bolts, toggle emergency access, and open/close doors.
|-
|
Stamp

|Your stamp is a powerful tool that acts as your official recognition of any papers you use it on. As mentioned in the paperwork section, be careful what you stamp as it can have dire consequences.
|-
|
Cloak

|Every command member has a signature cloak that allows crewmembers to easily distinguish them as a member of command. There is the base cloak that can be selected in a character's loadout or found in the dresser of the relevant command member, the mantle earned by spending 20 total hours in a command position, and the elite cloak. When you open your locker, you will likely notice a glow coming from inside. This is from the elite cloak inside! Other than the glow, elite cloaks are no different than a base cloak (the elite Captain cloak being the only exception, as it has a toggleable dome shield).
|-
|
Disabler

|As a member of command, you are allowed to carry one small, nonlethal item for self-defense purposes. Disablers are a good choice for this, both for their ability to defend yourself at range and for the ease of acquiring. Security starts with many spare disablers, and will usually be willing to part with one. They also fit conveniently in pockets.
